Proverbs 6:6-11 says, “Go to the ant, you sluggard! Consider her ways and be wise, Which, having no captain,Overseer or ruler, Provides her supplies in the summer, and gathers her food in the harvest. How long will you slumber, O sluggard? When will you rise from your sleep? A little sleep, a little slumber, A little folding of the hands to sleep— So shall your poverty come on you like a prowler, And your need like an armed man.”
A sluggard is a lazy person. Here the lazy person is told to consider the ways of the ant. The ant is wise and without oversight or direction the ant will gather up supplies and food. There are a lot of lessons we can learn from the ant. God expects us to work. God expects us to prepare for the future. God expects us to take the initiative to be able to do those things without oversight or direction. God expects us to provide for ourselves…and while sleep is necessary we are not to sleep all day…we are to work. There is amazing work ethic taught in these verses and each principle is patterned after the habits of an ant.
